Next, visit the Cathedral on the Main Square to admire beautiful religious paintings from the Cusco School. The tour continues to Sacsayhuaman, an impressive archaeological site featuring massive carved stones meticulously fitted together, constructed by over 20,000 men over 70 years.
We will then explore the Qenqo religious temple, where the Incas worshiped deities like the Sun, Moon, and Earth. Discover its underground galleries and a semicircular amphitheater.
The excursion proceeds to Puca Pucara, meaning “Red Fortress” due to its reddish structure, and then to Tambomachay, a water worship site featuring aqueducts and waterfalls sourced from nearby springs. The day concludes with a drop-off at El Regocijo Square, a block from Plaza de Armas. Overnight stay.
DAY 4. CUSCO / SACRED VALLEY / AGUAS CALIENTES: After breakfast, you’ll be picked up from your Cusco hotel for a 30 km journey to Pisac. This remarkable location boasts a vibrant market and archaeological stone temples with breathtaking valley views and magnificent Inca terraces.
Continue to Urubamba for a delightful buffet lunch before reaching Ollantaytambo. This site served as the Inca army headquarters, a religious center, and an agricultural hub. It offers stunning vistas and features over a hundred Inca terraces with advanced irrigation channels.
After this unforgettable experience, board the Train Expedition at Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel and meet with your guide to plan your Machu Picchu visit the following day. Overnight stay.
DAY 5. AGUAS CALIENTES / MACHU PICCHU / CUSCO: Begin your day with breakfast at the hotel. Early in the morning, take a bus up the winding road to Machu Picchu, enjoying a stunning view of the Urubamba River and its canyon.
The Lost City of the Incas, Machu Picchu, will amaze you with its terraces, ceremonial shrines, stairways, and urban zones. Feel the energy surrounding you. After a guided tour, you have free time to explore further or return by bus to Aguas Calientes for lunch (optional).
At the designated time, take the train back to Ollantaytambo and then a tourist bus to Cusco, where you’ll be dropped off at your hotel in the historical center. Overnight stay.
DAY 6. CUSCO / RAINBOW MOUNTAIN VINICUNCA / CUSCO: Early morning, at 3:30 a.m., we will pick you up from your Cusco hotel. Our shared transport will take us on a 3.5-hour journey through untouched landscapes, featuring wild desert vistas, snow-capped peaks, and herds of alpacas.
Upon reaching the trailhead, enjoy a hot breakfast before starting the hike from Chillihuani at an elevation of 4,200 meters (13,900 ft). The approximately 4-hour uphill trek leads to the famed Rainbow Mountain in Peru.
Throughout the ascent, take in the breathtaking Andes landscape, with glacial peaks, the red valley, rocky hills, and grazing llamas and alpacas. Upon reaching the summit, observe the Andean wildlife, including vicuñas, the Andean camel, which you will find only in the wild in Cusco. Vicuñas are smaller than llamas and alpacas and have the world’s most expensive wool.
At the top of Rainbow Mountain, you’ll have ample time for photos and relaxation amidst the majestic views. Admire the Ausangate Mountain, Cusco’s tallest peak (just under 21,000 ft), part of the Vilcanota Range.
During your visit, our tour guide will share fascinating information about the geological composition and vibrant colors of these remarkable mountains, formed millions of years ago.
After capturing stunning photos and soaking in the scenery (perhaps spotting condors), begin the 2-hour downhill hike. Meet our transport to head to a local restaurant for a delicious hot lunch.
Finally, return to Cusco around 5:00 p.m., where we will drop you off at your hotel.
DAY 7. CUSCO / PUNO: After breakfast at the hotel, transfer to the bus station. Board the tourist bus to begin a one-hour journey to the beautiful south valley, making the first stop at Andahuaylillas, situated at 3,093 meters above sea level.
This charming Andean town features an architectural gem from the seventeenth century known as the Sistine Chapel, adorned with impressive gold leaf and paintings from the Cusco art school.
The bus ride continues for an hour and a half to the archaeological site of Raqchi, our second stop at 3,450 meters above sea level. The temple of Wiracocha, built beside the Vilcanota River during the fifteenth century, showcases massive temple walls, aqueducts, and tombs.
The journey to Puno by bus proceeds to the city of Sicuani for a buffet lunch at a local restaurant offering regional dishes, vegetables, desserts, and hot drinks like mate de coca.
Following lunch, a 40-minute bus ride brings us to the highest point of the tour, La Raya Pass, at 4,335 meters above sea level. This marks the border between the cities of Cusco and Puno. We’ll make a brief stop to admire the snow-capped Chimboya and capture photos of the stunning landscapes.
The final visit is to the Museum of Pucara, after a journey of over an hour from La Raya Pass. This museum houses an excellent collection of monoliths, stone sculptures, and ceramics from the culture of Pucara, a civilization that thrived in the highlands of Peru and Bolivia.
Concluding the day, take the tourist bus for a two-hour journey to the city of Puno. Arrival at the bus station and transfer to your hotel. Overnight stay.
DAY 8. PUNO: After breakfast at your hotel, transfer to the lake port of Puno, where a regular boat will take you to the floating islands of the Uros. The Uros are an ancient society residing on artificial islands constructed from the totora plant, which grows abundantly in the lake.
The islands are crafted by weaving the totora in areas where it grows densely, forming a natural foundation. On this base, they build their homes, also from totora, and cook outdoors to prevent fires.
After visiting the Uros, embark on a one-and-a-half-hour boat journey to the island of Taquile. This island is Quechua-speaking, unlike others on the lake that speak Aymara. It was once part of the Inca empire, with remnants of this culture visible in its structures. Upon arrival, receive a brief overview of the island and partake in a cultural activity.
Following lunch, return to the port of Puno, where our transport will take you to your hotel. Overnight stay.
DAY 9. PUNO / LIMA: After breakfast at the hotel, we will pick you up and head to Sillustani, located 34 km from Puno City. Explore this fascinating pre-Inca cemetery, featuring towering funerary structures. Additionally, visit the surrounding communities to learn about their way of life.
The tour concludes with a transfer to Juliaca Airport. Upon arrival in Lima, transfer to your hotel. Overnight stay.
DAY 10. LIMA / OUT: Enjoy a day at leisure. Transfer to the airport for your international flight.
