Descripción del Tour
This charming Andean town is home to a remarkable architectural gem from the seventeenth century known as the Sistine Chapel. It boasts magnificent works adorned in gold leaf and paintings from the Cusco art school.
Inside the Church of San Pedro de Andahuaylillas, you'll find captivating artwork, with ceilings and walls embellished in Baroque style, many attributed to the Peruvian artist Luis de Reaño. It's undoubtedly a destination that should be on your travel bucket list.
The bus ride continues for another hour and a half as we head to the archaeological site of Raqchi, our second stop at 3,450 meters above sea level. The temple of Wiracocha was constructed beside the Vilcanota River in the fifteenth century and now stands with its colossal walls, once part of temples, alongside aqueducts and tombs.
In this area, you'll find circular storehouses known as Colcas, which were used to store various grains such as quinoa, potato, and corn, among others. Fascinatingly, Raqchi is also a segment of the renowned Inca Trail.
The journey to Puno by bus proceeds until we reach the city of Sicuani, where we will enjoy a buffet lunch at a local restaurant offering regional dishes, vegetables, desserts, and hot beverages like mate de coca.
After lunch, a 40-minute bus ride brings us to the highest point of the tour, La Raya Pass, located at 4,335 meters above sea level. This marks the border between the cities of Cusco and Puno, where we will pause briefly to admire the snow-capped Chimboya and capture photos of the breathtaking landscapes.
The final visit is to the Museum of Pucara, following a journey of over an hour from La Raya Pass. This museum houses an impressive collection of monoliths, stone sculptures, and ceramics from the culture of Pucara, a civilization that thrived in the highlands of Peru and Bolivia.
Finally, we will board the tourist bus for a two-hour ride to the city of Puno. En route, you will have the opportunity to admire the heart of the Andes' landscapes, passing through the city of Juliaca, until we reach the bus station of Puno at 05:00 p.m.
