Frequently Asked Questions

This nature and adventure tour in the Tambopata National Reserve typically includes transportation from Puerto Maldonado, river navigation by boat, accommodation in a jungle lodge, full board, a specialized bilingual guide, and ecotourism activities. The typical itinerary includes interpretive hikes through the Peruvian Amazon rainforest, wildlife viewing (monkeys, birds, caimans), visits to oxbow lakes such as Lake Sandoval, and, if the program allows, observation of macaw clay licks. Activities may vary depending on the season, weather, and river level. We recommend requesting the updated itinerary details, inclusions/exclusions, and rates before booking.

The best time to visit Tambopata is usually during the dry season (approximately May to October), with less rain, firmer trails, and greater ease of hiking and wildlife photography. During the rainy season (November to April), the jungle is lusher, the rivers swell, and downpours are frequent; however, wildlife viewing is good year-round. Expect warm and humid weather, 22–32°C (72–90°F), with high humidity. Pack a raincoat and flexible plans because the Amazonian weather is changeable. During peak season (June–September), it's advisable to book in advance due to high demand for jungle tours.

For this excursion to Tambopata National Reserve, pack lightweight, quick-drying clothing, long-sleeved shirts and long pants, a raincoat, hat, sunscreen, strong insect repellent (DEET or icaridin), closed-toe shoes or boots, a headlamp, binoculars, a reusable water bottle, and a waterproof backpack. Include personal medications and a small first-aid kit. Regarding health, it is recommended to inquire about yellow fever vaccination and malaria prophylaxis based on your medical history and country of residence. Purchase travel insurance that covers outdoor activities. Inform us in advance of any allergies, dietary restrictions, and medical conditions to ensure proper logistics and safety.

The difficulty level is easy to moderate: hiking on uneven trails, high humidity and heat, short climbs, and boat travel. It is suitable for solo travelers, couples, and families with older children, always following the guide's instructions. Tour safety is ensured through briefings, certified guides, a first-aid kit, life jackets, and jungle protocols. Good hydration, insect repellent, boots, and caution when observing wildlife are recommended (do not approach or feed animals). For people with reduced mobility, please inquire about available adaptations. Inform us of your physical condition so we can adjust the pace of the ecotourism itinerary.

Puerto Maldonado is accessible by air from Cusco or Lima. The tour operator typically includes airport or bus terminal pickup, transfer to the port, and boat to the jungle lodge as part of the tour package. Schedules depend on flight arrivals and river levels. It is advisable to pack light; many agencies offer luggage storage. Accommodation is usually in bungalows with mosquito nets; electricity may be limited (generator/solar) and cell phone or Wi-Fi signal is intermittent. Special diets are available with prior notice. Please inquire about booking, payment, and cancellation policies.
