The best time for this experience in the Peruvian Amazon rainforest is the dry season (approximately May to October), with firmer trails and a lower probability of rain, ideal for hiking and wildlife viewing. The rainy season (November to April) offers flowing rivers and lush vegetation, but with frequent downpours. The climate is tropical: temperatures between 22°C and 32°C, high humidity (80%+), and the presence of insects. Wildlife can be seen year-round; sunrises at macaw clay licks are often spectacular during the dry season. Bring a lightweight raincoat and be prepared for rapid weather changes. Access is via Puerto Maldonado.

For an eco-tour in Tambopata, pack lightweight, quick-drying clothing, including t-shirts and long pants (in neutral colors), a waterproof jacket/poncho, closed-toe hiking or walking boots and sandals for the lodge, extra socks, a wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, insect repellent with DEET or icaridin, a personal first-aid kit and medications, a reusable water bottle, a headlamp with batteries, a power bank, a dry bag for your camera and passport, binoculars, and a trash bag. Also pack a swimsuit and a quick-drying towel. Bring cash in soles for extras and tips. Keep your luggage compact for river transport and protect electronics from tropical humidity.

Yes, it's a nature tour operated by certified guides with safety protocols for trails and boating. Life jackets are worn on the boat, and established routes are followed to minimize environmental impact and wildlife exposure. It's suitable for families with children (ideally 6–7 years old) and senior travelers in moderate physical condition; expect 1–3 hour hikes, and expect heat and humidity. Please inquire about mobility restrictions, allergies, and medical conditions. Yellow fever vaccination (depending on medical history and doctor's recommendation), tetanus vaccination, and hepatitis A vaccination are recommended; malaria is rare, but consider prophylaxis. Purchase travel insurance with medical and evacuation coverage.

The most popular programs are 3 days/2 nights or 4 days/3 nights. They typically begin in Puerto Maldonado with a boat trip to the ecolodge and an introduction to the rainforest. The itinerary includes day and night hikes, wildlife viewing (monkeys, birds, caimans), a sunrise visit to parrot/macaw clay licks, and exploration of oxbow lakes by canoe. For 4-day/3-night stays, more in-depth trails, a canopy tour, or interpretive activities focused on conservation and local culture are added. Schedules are adjusted according to weather conditions and the group's skill level to maximize the experience. The exact itinerary may vary depending on the season, river levels, and the ecolodge's logistics.
