Alto Mayo Valley Tour

We will pick you up from your hotel in the city of Tarapoto and head towards AltoMayo, renowned as one of the most stunning locations on Earth. This area is a haven for birdwatchers, offering breathtaking views of lush greenery, spectacular waterfalls, underground caves for exploration, and soothing hot springs.

The journey to the Alto Mayo Valley begins in the city of Rioja, situated 87 miles north of Tarapoto. After a scenic drive of over two hours, we will reach the source of the Tioyacu river.

This charming recreational site invites you to swim in the crystal-clear waters of the River Yacu or stroll across the wooden bridge, all while soaking in the serene natural surroundings.

Following our visit to Tio Yacu, we will proceed to the tourist attraction known as Chacra Vieja. Here, you can sample traditional beverages and purchase local crafts. Afterwards, enjoy a delicious lunch featuring regional dishes made with fresh, local ingredients. Post-lunch, we’ll visit the city of orchids, Moyobamba, to explore the orchidarium.

Located in the San Martín region, Moyobamba boasts 1500 varieties of orchids showcasing diverse shapes and colors. Within the Alto Mayo Protected Area, around 300 orchid species have been documented. This extraordinary nursery allows you to admire these beautiful plants with guidance from a professional expert, and you have the option to purchase one if desired.

Concluding this memorable adventure, we will return to the city of Tarapoto to drop you off at your hotel.
