Ahuashiyacu Waterfall

After collecting you from your hotel in the vibrant city of Tarapoto, we will embark on an exciting half-day tour to the Ahuashiyacu Falls, a premier tourist destination in the San Martín region.

The waterfall is situated within the protected Cordillera Escalera area, in the Banda de Shiclayo district, just 8 miles from Tarapoto. This mountain range is enveloped by tropical jungle and boasts incredible biodiversity, including species that are nearing extinction, particularly amphibians.

The Quechua term “Ahuashiyacu” translates to laughing water. This area is home to the national bird, the Cock of the Rocks, and features stunning flora, such as orchids.

En route to the waterfall, we will pause briefly at the Cerro Escalera viewpoint, where you can marvel at the Cordillera Escalera. Our tourist transport will then take us to the start of a 15-minute walk through the natural reserve, leading us to the breathtaking waterfall.

As you explore the area, you'll encounter various types of trees, orchids, ferns, and more. The waterfall is located at an elevation of 806 meters above sea level and consists of two cascades—the first, inaccessible, at 60 meters high, and the second, at 40 meters, feeds into a refreshing natural pool perfect for a swim.

You will have ample time to relax and soak in the stunning views of the Peruvian jungle. Feel free to wander around and capture impressive photographs.

Afterward, following a brief walk, we will board the transport to return to the city of Tarapoto, where you will be dropped off at your hotel.
