Frequently Asked Questions

The Classic Paracas tour typically includes a speedboat trip to the Ballestas Islands with a bilingual tour guide, life jacket, and marine wildlife viewing (sea lions, guano birds, and Humboldt penguins), as well as a tour of the Paracas National Reserve in a tourist vehicle with scenic stops such as Red Beach and viewpoints. Depending on the package, it may include tourist transfers from Lima or start in Paracas. Meals, travel insurance, tips, and personal expenses are not usually included. The port embarkation fee and some entrance fees may be charged separately in cash. Please check your confirmation for final details regarding inclusions, schedules, and operator conditions.

The typical itinerary starts early. If you're departing from Lima, the tour transfer leaves from hotel zones before dawn, arriving in Paracas around 7:30–8:00 AM. You'll board a boat to the Ballestas Islands for a 2-hour trip, passing by the Candelabro geoglyph, followed by marine wildlife viewing. Enjoy free time, and in the afternoon, take a 2–3 hour tour of the Paracas National Reserve (Red Beach, Lagunillas, La Catedral). Return to Lima in the evening. If you start in Paracas, the entire tour usually takes half a day to a full day. Durations and order may vary depending on weather, tides, and port regulations. Please confirm your exact check-in and departure times.

The Paracas Classic tour offers two options: departure from Lima with round-trip tourist transportation, or direct departure from Paracas. In Lima, pick-up is usually in hotel zones such as Miraflores, San Isidro, or the Historic Center in the early morning to ensure timely arrival for the Ballestas Islands departure. In Paracas, the usual meeting point is El Chaco Pier; please arrive 30 minutes prior to your scheduled departure time. Departures to the Ballestas Islands are typically between 8:00 and 10:00 AM, subject to authorization from the Port Authority. Please check your voucher to confirm your hotel pick-up location, departure time, return time, and assistance contact information.

To enjoy your Paracas excursion, bring sunscreen, a hat, UV sunglasses, and a waterproof windbreaker; you may experience breezes and splashes on the boat. Wear comfortable shoes for walking to the viewpoints in the Paracas National Reserve and protect your camera or phone with a case. Bring reusable water, cash for the boarding fee and lunch in Lagunillas, and your ID. If you are prone to seasickness, consider bringing preventative medication. Drones are not permitted without SERNANP authorization. Respect the marine wildlife: do not feed or touch animals. Life jackets are available in all sizes for families; always follow the instructions of the guide and captain.

Trips to the Ballestas Islands depend on authorization from the Port Authority and the weather (Paracas winds, waves). If the port closes, the operator will usually reschedule the boat trip, offer alternatives within the Paracas National Reserve, or process partial refunds according to their policy. We recommend booking in advance during peak season and confirming 24–48 hours prior. Arrive early at the dock to secure your spot. Changes and cancellations may have deadlines and penalties; please check your voucher for specific conditions, free cancellation windows, and contact information. Safety is our priority: itineraries may be adjusted to protect travelers.
