Tour Description
The tour begins by picking you up from your hotel in Paracas to discover the reserve situated in the department of Ica, within the province of Pisco. The Ica region is known for its sunny climate and numerous tourist attractions such as the Nazca Lines and archaeological sites tied to the Paracas culture.
The Peruvian coastline is home to a diverse array of marine species, including the stunning Humboldt penguin. This remarkable bird is commonly found in this region, especially around the Ballestas Islands. This area has been a protected zone since 1975, boasting spectacular wildlife owing to the cold Humboldt ocean current.
Stopping at the Supay beach viewpoint is essential. Here, you will relish breathtaking views of the coast and its cliffs. The scenery is truly mesmerizing, combining the vast desert with the vibrant sea and birds soaring overhead. It’s a genuine natural spectacle.
Following a brief walk, we will arrive at the rock formation known as the Cathedral, which has been designated a World Heritage Site. This site was impacted by a significant earthquake in 2007. The local flora and fauna are extraordinary, with mammals, reptiles, and birds such as sea lions, otters, and dolphins inhabiting the area.
We will travel along the stunning coastline seeking out beautiful beaches, like the Red Beach, where the reddish sand is a result of ancient volcanic eruptions, making it one of the world’s most unique locales. We will also visit Yumaque Beach, a beautiful moon-shaped cove, offering a chance to observe seagulls and dolphins.
The tour of the reserve proceeds to the flamingos viewpoint, where migratory birds visit seasonally. Next, we will visit the Interpretation Room to understand the significance of this reserve, alongside its history and local flora and fauna. Additionally, we will admire marine fossils discovered in this area.
The final stop will be at Lagunillas beach, a charming fisherman’s bay where you can optionally savor a delicious and fresh Ceviche. This is one of the most iconic Peruvian dishes, made with raw fish marinated in lemon juice.
Once this incredible tour concludes, you will be transported back to your hotel in Paracas.
