Tour Description

We kick off our day by picking you up from your hotel in the city of Huaraz or meeting at the designated gathering point. From there, we set off on a journey that takes approximately two and a half hours northeast of Huaraz, navigating through scenic routes that wind through valleys and charming villages.

Our path leads us through Carhuaz, famous for its artisan ice cream, and the tranquil town of Shilla before we enter the magnificent Huascarán National Park, a protected area that boasts some of the tallest and most stunning mountains in the Andes.

Our destination is Punta Olímpica, a high mountain pass that offers awe-inspiring views of the surrounding snow-draped peaks and glaciers. Here, we will park and get ready for the hike as the guide delivers a safety briefing and conducts a gear check.

The trek begins with an approximately one-hour hike over rocky terrain, crossing the glacier's moraine. Along this path, you'll encounter a surreal landscape where rugged rock formations contrast sharply with the bright white ice.

Upon reaching the base of the glacier, it's time to gear up with crampons, harnesses, and ropes—essential tools for a safe ascent. The guide will secure the group with ropes and provide final instructions before we start the climb.

The most thrilling part now awaits: ice climbing to the summit, a challenge that takes about an hour. As we climb, the sense of accomplishment intensifies, and the views become even more spectacular. The blend of physical exertion, crisp mountain air, and the vastness of the landscape will make you feel like a genuine mountaineer.

Finally, we reach the summit of Nevado Mateo (5,150m), where you're rewarded with a breathtaking panoramic vista. Standing before you is the majestic Nevado Contrahiervas, while in the distance, the stunning Cancará Chico and Grande lagoons glisten in a brilliant turquoise, contrasting beautifully against the snowy backdrop.

This is the perfect moment to take a deep breath, capture unforgettable photos, and savor the satisfaction of conquering one of the most accessible peaks of the Cordillera Blanca.

After spending time at the summit, we start our descent along the same route, carefully following the guide’s directions to ensure a safe return. Once back at the glacier base, we remove our technical equipment and hike back to our vehicle at Punta Olímpica.

From there, we embark on our return journey to Huaraz, where you can relax and reflect on the most exhilarating moments of this unforgettable adventure.
