Frequently Asked Questions

The Colca Canyon tour includes round-trip tourist transportation from Arequipa, a bilingual professional guide, accommodation in a selected hotel, breakfast, and guided visits to the main tourist attractions of the Colca Valley, such as Chivay, the Cruz del Cóndor viewpoint, and traditional villages. Entrance fees to some attractions are usually included, although the tourist ticket for entering the canyon and the hot springs may have an additional cost. It is recommended to check the exact itinerary with the agency to verify all included services.

The best time to visit the Colca Canyon is during the dry season, which runs from April to November. During these months, there is less rainfall, the weather is more stable, and the panoramic views of the canyon and its surroundings are spectacular. Furthermore, the likelihood of spotting the majestic Andean condor in flight is higher. The rainy season (December to March) can make access more difficult and increase the risk of landslides, so it is recommended to plan your trip during the dry months to fully enjoy the experience.

The Colca Canyon tour is accessible to most tourists, as it includes vehicle tours and hikes of low to moderate difficulty. However, due to the altitude, some people may experience altitude sickness, especially on the first day in Chivay (around 3,600 meters above sea level). It is recommended to acclimatize beforehand in Arequipa and stay hydrated. For those who wish to trek, there are more challenging routes, but the classic program is designed for a general audience, including seniors and families.

Yes, it's highly recommended to book your Colca Canyon tour in advance, especially during peak season (June to August) or long weekends. This guarantees availability at the best hotels and seats on tour vehicles, as well as ensuring the organization of included services. Booking early also allows you to receive personalized advice and resolve any questions before your trip. Through reliable agencies like The Best Peru Tours, you can book online quickly, securely, and with immediate confirmation.

For the Colca Canyon excursion, it's recommended to bring warm clothing, as temperatures can be low, especially in the mornings and evenings. Pack a waterproof jacket, comfortable walking clothes, sunscreen, a hat or cap, sunglasses, and appropriate hiking boots. Don't forget your camera to capture the landscapes and the flight of the condors. If you plan to visit the hot springs, bring a swimsuit. It's also important to bring a reusable water bottle to stay hydrated during the excursions.
