Our journey through the Countryside, Sabandía Mill, and Founder’s Mansion begins with a convenient pickup from your hotel situated in downtown Arequipa. We then head towards the stunning and expansive Arequipa countryside, renowned for its cultivation of onions and garlic.
Our next stop is the Valley of Chilina, where you can take in the vibrant hues of the countryside from its impressive viewpoint. Here, you'll be treated to breathtaking views of sprawling green fields and the serene Chili River.
We proceed to Paucarpata, which boasts terraces and viewpoints providing spectacular panoramic vistas of the Arequipa countryside and the majestic Misti volcano.
The tour continues to the Founder’s Mansion, a traditional sillar manor house dating back to the 16th century, constructed by Garcí Manuel de Carbajal, the founder of Arequipa. Situated 20 kilometers from the Plaza de Armas and adjacent to the Socabaya River, the mansion retains its colonial-era charm and original decor.
This historic mansion has been home to various notable individuals, including doctors, bishops, generals, and priests. It includes a quaint chapel, a stunning main patio, and vibrant gardens. During this visit, you'll see rooms adorned with European-imported canvases, ceramics, and furniture.
Located just 9 kilometers from the city, the Sabandía Mill is an architectural masterpiece dating back to 1621, crafted from sillar, and still operational today. It is surrounded by expansive gardens featuring local flora such as cacti and succulents.
The mill was the brainchild of master stonemason Don Francisco Flores, and today stands as one of the most significant historical landmarks in Arequipa.
Concluding the tour, we will make our way back to the city center to drop you off at your hotel.
