Descripción del Tour
Once we collect you from your hotel in Lima (optional) or meet you at the designated starting point at the Hotel Gran Bolivar, embark on this captivating walking tour to explore the historic center of Lima with a knowledgeable professional guide.
The Lima walking tour commences at Plaza San Martin, an exquisite square honored as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1988. At its heart stands a monument dedicated to Don Jose de San Martin, the liberator of Peru.
Inaugurated on July 27th, 1921, the square is encircled by remarkable historical edifices including the National Club, the Gran Bolivar Hotel, Theatre Colon, and Giacoletti, the latter having been damaged by fire in 2018.
The journey continues along Jirón de la Union, established in 1535 by Spanish conqueror Francisco Pizarro. This bustling street was once frequented by elite society, including writers and politicians, at its cafes and restaurants. Here, you'll witness commercial buildings, traditional wooden balconies, and churches.
You will reach the Plaza de Armas, the heart of Lima's old town. Home to the Government Palace, where the Peruvian president resides, and the Cathedral of Lima, whose construction began in 1535 and concluded in 1649, boasting a stunning Renaissance and neoclassical facade.
Additionally, admire key structures such as the City Hall, the De la Unión Club, the Sagrario Church, the Archbishop’s Palace, and the wooden balconies surrounding the striking Plaza de Armas. Capture the essence of this historical site with spectacular panoramic photos.
During our Lima city walking tour, indulge in a delightful traditional Peruvian treat known as Churros, fried dough sticks filled with dulce de leche or manjarblanco.
Visit the Church of San Francisco to delve into the Convent of San Francisco and its catacombs. These subterranean vaults are the largest and best preserved in South America, serving as the city's principal cemetery until 1810. You'll encounter vast pits containing the bones of over 25,000 individuals.
Numerous historical structures have undergone renovations due to damage from significant earthquakes in Peru's capital.
The tour concludes here, but the sequence of visits may vary depending on the tour's start time. Transportation will be provided back to your hotel (optional).
