Pacaya Samiria National Reserve is a year-round nature destination. There are two distinct hydrological seasons that define the tour experience: the high-water season (approximately November–May), with high rivers that facilitate navigation through lakes and flooded forests, and the low-water season (June–October), with more beaches, exposed trails, and excellent wildlife viewing. The climate in the Peruvian Amazon is hot and very humid: 24–33 °C (75–91 °F), with a high heat index and intense but brief downpours. To enjoy the excursion, bring lightweight, quick-drying clothing, a compact rain jacket, sun and rain protection, insect repellent, and a waterproof bag or case for your camera equipment and documents.

For a safe trip to the Amazon rainforest, bring: your passport, cash in soles, a light backpack, a headlamp, a power bank, a camera and binoculars, a hat or cap, sunglasses, long-sleeved shirts and quick-drying pants, knee-high socks, rubber boots or non-slip shoes, a rain poncho, a swimsuit, and a personal first-aid kit. Up-to-date vaccinations are recommended (yellow fever, tetanus; consider hepatitis) and inquire about malaria prophylaxis. Use insect repellent containing DEET or icaridin. Purchase travel insurance. Certified tours operate with life jackets, official guides, and SERNANP protocols. Respect ecotourism regulations: do not leave trash or feed wildlife.
