Tour Description

DAY 1: ARRIVAL IN IQUITOS

Upon your arrival at the Iquitos airport, or if you're already staying at a downtown hotel, we will pick you up early in the morning. Our transportation will shuttle us to the Nauta port, situated two hours from Iquitos, where we'll embark on a one-hour boat journey to an extraordinary ecolodge nestled within the Tamshiyacu-Tahuayo reserve along the Yanayacu River's banks.

This reserve is in the Loreto department, near the renowned Pacaya Samiria National Reserve. Once you’ve settled in at the lodge, indulge in a buffet lunch crafted from healthy, organic ingredients.

Your jungle adventure kicks off by encountering the tiniest monkey, the Pygmy Marmoset, also known as the Pocket Monkey. Explore the lodge's botanical garden to discover various medicinal plant species and gain insights into composting.

We'll dine at the lodge before embarking on a thrilling nighttime boat expedition, seeking out caimans, mammals, and nocturnal birds.

DAY 2: AMAZON RAINFOREST EXPLORATION

After a hearty breakfast, we set off on a river exploration to traverse the majestic Amazon River, where you'll have the chance to refresh with a swim. We will also be on the lookout for the pink and gray dolphins that are native to the area.

During our adventure, you'll witness the world's largest aquatic plant, the Victoria Regia, and observe stunning iguanas in their natural surroundings. At midday, we return to the lodge for a buffet featuring both local and international dishes.

In the afternoon, enjoy piranha fishing with handmade rods, a fun activity suitable for everyone. We'll also marvel at the breathtaking sunset over Sapote Lagoon.

Return to the lodge for a relaxing dinner. Later, embark on a nighttime walk to discover giant frogs and tarantulas.

DAY 3: VISIT TO A NATIVE COMMUNITY AND CONCLUSION OF JOURNEY

Start the day with breakfast in the lodge’s inviting dining area. We will then board our boat for an excursion to seek out various bird and monkey species.

The Tamshiyacu-Tahuayo Regional Communal Conservation Area, a protected zone in Loreto, is our destination. Visit the San Juan de Yanayacu Community to learn about their unique customs and traditions. During the high-water season, this indigenous community resides in floating houses and uses canoes for transportation.

Return to the lodge where you can unwind in hammocks or partake in activities such as kayaking or river swimming.

Enjoy a final lunch at the lodge before embarking on a one-hour boat ride back to the port of Iquitos. Upon reaching Nauta, our transportation will take you to the Iquitos airport or your pre-arranged hotel in the city.

The Peruvian Amazon is a year-round travel destination. From November to May (flood season), rainfall is higher and rivers are swollen, making it easy to navigate through flooded forests, offering better wildlife viewing from canoes, and creating a humid and hot environment. From June to October (loose season), there is less rain, more hiking along trails, and better visibility for terrestrial wildlife; river beaches attract birds. Temperatures typically range from 24°C to 32°C with high humidity. Each season offers different advantages for photography and ecotourism. The local team adjusts activities daily to take advantage of the weather and ensure a safe and active experience.

For this excursion in the Peruvian jungle, bring: lightweight, quick-drying clothing, long-sleeved shirts, long pants, a hat, a raincoat, a swimsuit, insect repellent with picaridin or DEET, sunscreen, a headlamp, batteries/portable charger, a reusable water bottle, dry bags, and any personal medications. The lodge usually provides rubber boots. Consult your doctor about yellow fever vaccination and malaria prophylaxis; we recommend travel and evacuation insurance. Always follow the guide's instructions, wear a life jacket on the boats, and do not touch any wildlife. The physical level is moderate and suitable for families; please inform us of any allergies or dietary restrictions when booking for a safe trip.
