Tour Description

After picking you up at the hotel in the city of Trujillo, we will set off towards the Chicama Valley, situated approximately 33 kilometers north of Trujillo. Our destination is the El Brujo archaeological complex, a significant site of the Mochica culture.

Excavations began in 1990, uncovering the Huaca Cao Viejo, a pyramid reaching a height of 46 meters. This structure features walls adorned with friezes and colorful reliefs that depict intricate scenes and geometric patterns. The complex comprises three primary monuments: Huaca Prieta, Huaca Cao Viejo, and Huaca Cortada.

The Wiese Foundation, in collaboration with National Geographic, has unveiled an extraordinary discovery—a tomb of a pre-Columbian woman leader from the fourth century.

We will explore the Museum of Cao, where you can marvel at remarkable ancient artifacts. Additionally, uncover the mystery of the mummy known as The Lady of Cao, dating back approximately 1,700 years. Remarkably well-preserved, the mummy owes its condition to an ancient ritual.

Following this fascinating journey, we'll make a final stop at the quaint town of Magdalena de Cao, located 5 kilometers from the El Brujo complex. Here, you can savor a traditional beverage called Chicha de Jora, which undergoes a year-long fermentation process using ancestral techniques.

After the tour, we will return to the city of Trujillo and drop you off at the Plaza de Armas.
