Tour Description
We will collect you from your hotel in the city of Puno.
Our city tour kicks off with a visit to the historic Arco Deústua, a monument erected in 1847 to commemorate the martyrs of the battles of Junín and Ayacucho. This intricately carved stone arch is surrounded by gazebos and fountains, enhancing its magnificence. It symbolizes independence and the patriotic spirit of the Puno people—a site inviting contemplation on the region’s rich history.
Our next destination is Parque Pino, where pre-Hispanic traditions blend with colonial heritage. Once a bustling marketplace, today it hosts cultural events. Here, you’ll also encounter the San Carlos School, the oldest educational institution in the city, founded by Simón Bolívar.
A few steps away, we’ll pass by the San Juan Church, built in 1562. This temple houses the revered image of the Virgin of Candelaria, Puno’s patron saint, whose festival in February is the largest in Peru. This sacred site mirrors the profound devotion and traditions of its people.
The tour continues along Jirón Lima, a pedestrian street lined with restaurants, cafés, and shops offering local products. This is the heart of Puno’s tourism—ideal for absorbing the city’s dynamic atmosphere.
We then reach the Plaza de Armas, encircled by historic buildings. Its centerpiece is a modern fountain, with the majestic Puno Cathedral nearby. This 17th-century minor basilica is a testament to the artistry and faith of bygone eras. Its colonial architecture and historical significance will undoubtedly impress you.
Next, we head to the Huajsapata Viewpoint, one of Puno’s most iconic spots. Just minutes from the city center, this hill offers a stunning panoramic view of the city and Lake Titicaca—especially breathtaking at sunset. At the summit, a large sculpture of Manco Cápac, the mythical founder of the Inca Empire, underscores the site’s historical and symbolic importance.
Our journey continues to the mystical Laykakota Market, also known as the Witches’ Market. This unique Puno location is a captivating blend of Andean traditions, ancestral beliefs, and spirituality. Here, you’ll find everything from medicinal herbs and amulets to ritual objects used in offerings to Mother Earth.
Finally, we’ll explore local artisan markets where you can discover traditional crafts and, if desired, purchase unique handmade pieces as memorable keepsakes from this cultural journey.
The tour concludes with your return to your hotel.
