Tour Description
We will collect you from the bus terminal or your hotel located in the heart of Nazca to escort you to the Nazca aerodrome. Upon arrival, we will complete the required procedures, which take approximately 45 minutes, as we prepare to fly over these incredible figures.
The Nazca Lines are situated on the desert plains between Nazca and Palpa, 447 kilometers from Lima, in one of the world's most arid deserts. The first mention of these lines dates back to 1547, but they were officially discovered by Peruvian archaeologist Toribio Mejía Xesspe in 1927. German archaeologist Maria Reiche devoted her life to studying and preserving the Nazca Lines from 1946 onwards. She theorized that the lines served as a vast solar and lunar calendar, utilized by ancient astronomers.
There are numerous theories regarding the purpose of these drawings. Some suggest a link to extraterrestrials, or that the inhabitants crafted these enormous works to be viewed by their deities from above. To this day, their true purpose remains a mystery.
With the 30-minute flight, you will witness 13 figures including the whale, trapezoids, the dog, the astronaut, the monkey, the condor, the compass, the spider, the hummingbird, the parrot, the tree, the hand, and the albatross.
Opting for the 1-hour flight allows you to admire 21 figures across the stunning Nazca and Palpa plains. Initially, you will observe the 13 figures mentioned earlier, followed by a flight over the Palpa plains to discover new and fascinating lines like the heron, the crane, the pelican, the seagull, the parrot, the snail, llamas, iguana, lizard, snakes, and various birds.
The Nazca culture flourished from the 1st to the 7th centuries AD, renowned for their colorful ceramics, textiles, and metalwork. Their ceremonial hub is located in Cahuachi, in the Nazca River valley. Through an aqueduct network, they successfully irrigated their lands and practiced agriculture. The Nazca Lines are an extraordinary legacy of this culture, with interpretations ranging from fantastical to scientific.
Following the flight, you will be transferred to your hotel in the city of Nazca or to the bus station, based on your itinerary.
