Descripción del Tour
We commence our tour with a departure from centrally situated hotels, beginning our exploration in the bohemian district of Barranco. This area is teeming with cultural galleries, quaint coffee shops, and vibrant street art. Additionally, visitors can admire stunning examples of republican architecture.
Our journey continues to the Main Square and the iconic Bridge of Sighs, where we will take in the scenic pathway known as the Bajada de Baños, a stone-paved road leading to the city's beaches.
Next, we will explore the Archaeological Sanctuary of Pachacamac, located just 19 miles southeast of Lima. This adobe temple offers breathtaking views of the sea and the Lurin River valley. It served as a pilgrimage site for numerous ancient Peruvian cultures, dating back to 5000 B.C. Upon the Incas' arrival, the site was transformed into an administrative hub, incorporating and respecting existing structures.
Pachacamac is divided into three significant sectors: the administrative area, featuring the Acllahuasi, the Palace of Tauri Chumpi, and the Pilgrimage Plaza; the religious centers with temples dedicated to the Sun and Moon; and the domestic zone. We will also visit the Site Museum of Pachacamac to deepen our understanding and view the preserved artifacts from the area.
The district of Barranco originally served as a fishing village, with its beaches once favored by Lima's upper-middle class, who constructed European-style villas and mansions. During the Pacific War of 1881, the Chilean army occupied and ravaged the area, including the Bridge of Sighs, which has been restored multiple times.
The Temple of the Sun, constructed by the Incas upon their arrival on Lima's coast in 1470, stands as the highest point of the complex, oriented towards the sea. Built with red-hued adobe, it is the largest temple on the Peruvian coast.
The tour concludes with the return of each participant to their selected hotels.
