Frequently Asked Questions

The Machu Picchu City Tour typically includes hotel pickup in Cusco, tourist transfer to the Sacred Valley (Ollantaytambo), scenic train ride to Aguas Calientes, official bus ride to the citadel, entrance ticket, and a guided tour in Spanish led by a certified tour guide. The typical itinerary includes 2 to 3 hours exploring the main temples and viewpoints, time for photos, and the return trip by train and transport to Cusco. Some tour packages offer upgrades such as the Vistadome train, lunch, or continuous assistance. Check which services are included, train schedules, and class before booking to optimize your travel experience.

The total duration of a day tour is usually 10 to 14 hours, depending on the train schedule and whether it's peak or off-peak season. The excursion typically begins very early (between 4:00 and 6:00 AM) with a transfer to the train station and ends in the evening in Cusco. Entry to Machu Picchu is on a regulated schedule, and the guided tour follows a designated route. The usual meeting point is your hotel or a central location. To ensure good train and entrance times, it's advisable to book in advance. Always check your voucher for the exact segments, times, and ticket codes.

The price of a tour to Machu Picchu varies depending on the season, train class (Expedition/Vistadome), advance booking, and additional services. It typically includes transportation (train, bus, etc.), entrance fee, and a tour guide; meals, tips, and personal expenses are not usually included. Many operators accept credit card payments and secure bank transfers. Discounts are available for children and, in some cases, for students with valid ID; please check the terms and conditions. Entrance tickets to Machu Picchu are limited and, as a matter of policy, are not always refundable; cancellations and rescheduling may incur penalties depending on the date. Please read the change policy before booking and consider travel insurance for added flexibility.

For a comfortable trip, bring your original passport (required for your ticket), lightweight layered clothing, a waterproof jacket, a hat, sunscreen, insect repellent, reusable water bottles, and snacks. Wear non-slip trekking shoes; trekking poles should have rubber tips. The weather is variable: dry season (May to September) with sunny days and cool nights; rainy season (November to March) with showers and wet trails. The altitude at the citadel is moderate, but many travelers arrive from Cusco (3,400 m), so acclimatization is recommended. Bring cash for expenses in Aguas Calientes and protect your cameras from moisture.

Yes, it's possible to add Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain, but these require separate tickets with very limited availability and fixed schedules. These hikes involve elevation changes and challenging sections; they are not recommended for people with vertigo or knee problems. The archaeological site's rules prohibit drones, large tripods, and food within the citadel; the visit follows marked trails. Access with strollers or wheelchairs is limited due to Inca staircases. Travel with insurance, carry identification, and follow the tour guide's instructions. If you wish to add these experiences, book well in advance and confirm availability for your package.
